About Macross
Macross began with Super Dimension Fortress Macross (1982, 36 episodes) about the SDF-1 crashing with civilians aboard. Do You Remember Love (1984) retells it as a film. Flash Back 2012, Plus (1994 OVA plus film), 7 (1994, 49 episodes), Zero (2002 prequel OVA), Frontier (2007 series plus two films) and Delta (2016 series plus films through Absolute Live Frontier in 2021) extend the universe.
Each era resets the cast around new singers and variable fighters with only the Protoculture lore connecting them. Harmony Gold's Robotech shares footage with the original only and sits apart as its own continuity, so Macross guides exclude it entirely.
Good to know
Start with the original series or Do You Remember Love, then Plus, then Frontier, since those three teach the franchise formula best. Macross 7 divides fans with its 49-episode rock-opera length, safe to sample after the core path. Delta and Zero assume comfort with the triangle, so save those for after Frontier rather than first.
