About Mushishi
Mushishi follows Ginko, a traveler who studies mushi, the primitive spirits behind strange phenomena, across an episodic Japan that feels out of time. Season 1 (2005 to 2006) adapts the early manga in 26 self-contained stories, and the show's patience became its reputation.
Nearly a decade later came the continuation: the Path of Thorns special, then Mushishi: The Next Chapter across 2014, closing with the Bell Droplets special in 2015. Watch in release order; the later episodes assume Ginko's quiet rhythm but no plot homework. The 2006 live-action film is a separate Katsuhiro Otomo take, strictly optional.
Good to know
The Next Chapter aired split across spring and autumn 2014, which is why episode lists sometimes show it as two seasons: it is one 20-episode run plus bookend specials. The specials adapt the manga's final chapters, so Bell Droplets genuinely closes the story. The manga finished in 2008 with a two-chapter revival in 2013, fully adapted now. No further anime has been announced, and none is needed.
