About Vandread
Vandread follows Hibiki Tokai stuck on the Nirvana with women pilots Dita, Meia and Jura against gender divided worlds. The first stage from 2000 runs 13 episodes through Vanguard merges, the second stage from 2001 runs 13 episodes through Harvester Earth, and the Taidouhen OVA from 2002 recaps plus extra scenes.
Watch first stage first since merges and Paksis rules carry straight into second stage. The OVA works last as a recap with new cuts rather than first. No sequel has been dated since 2002, which leaves the two stages plus OVA as the closed set with Earth contact settled.
Good to know
Broadcast order is story order with the OVA as extra. First stage sets merge mechanics slowly through skirmishes, so give it five episodes. Second stage assumes the crew bonds and Harvester stakes, which makes skipping costly. Treat Taidouhen as a rewatch bridge after both stages rather than a required third chapter.
