About Dennis the Menace
Dennis the Menace splits into two characters sharing a 1951 debut: Hank Ketcham's American menace and the British Beano menace. DiC's 1986 series ran 78 episodes around the American Mitchells and Mr. Wilson. The BBC's 1996 series and the 2009 Dennis and Gnasher reboot ran the British version with the Colonel and the Softies. The 2013 Christmas film extends the reboot in its own outing.
Each version resets Dennis, Gnasher and the street with no shared timeline between the American and British takes. No new series has been announced beyond the reboot's close, leaving both neighborhoods quiet on screen.
Good to know
Pick the American 1986 run for the Ketcham formula or the British 2009 run for the modern take, since neither needs the other first. The 1993 live-action film with Mason Gamble works as an alternate Mitchell story after the American series. Later specials share only the slingshot idea, safe as extras outside the main runs.
