About Family Guy
Family Guy has aired on Fox since 1999 as the Griffin family, plus Brian and Stewie, cycle through cutaway gags in Quahog, Rhode Island. The first three seasons built the formula, the 2005 return cemented it after the show was cancelled in 2002 and rescued by Adult Swim reruns, and it has run steadily ever since. More than 460 episodes have aired, which makes it Fox's second longest running program after The Simpsons and the fourth longest running scripted primetime series in North America.
The shape of the show changed in 2025 and 2026. Fox moved the holiday episodes to Hulu, where they premiere ahead of the Fox run, and season 24 split its year between the two. Season 25 followed the same pattern in a bigger way: it started on October 5, 2026 with the Halloween special on Fox, and the rest of the season is scheduled for early 2027 as part of the Animation Domination block. Two Hulu holiday specials precede it each year.
Fox renewed the show through season 27, which runs into the 2028 to 2029 television year, so the guide stays open. The Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story direct to video film from 2005 is the only movie entry, and it stays in the list because it is the one piece of the franchise with actual continuity.
Good to know
Start anywhere, since continuity resets almost every episode and the show rewards sampling over sequencing. Broadcast order only matters for a handful of two parters and the Brian arc in season 12.
New viewers can open with any recent season plus the Stewie film, and the renewal through season 27 means there is no finale pressure shaping the watch. The one wrinkle to plan around is the rollout: with the holiday specials on Hulu and the rest of the season on Fox in 2027, watching in air order means jumping between two services across the autumn and then again in the new year.
The direct to video specials are not part of the numbered seasons and are not on this list, and the 2005 Stewie film is the only film that shares continuity with the show.
