About GoBots
GoBots adapts Tonka toys as Guardians versus Renegades from Gobotron. A five part miniseries aired October 29 to November 2, 1984 in syndication from Hanna Barbera, then a regular series followed September 1985 to December 1985 for 60 episodes in the Funtastic World block. The run totals 65 episodes with the miniseries counted in.
GoBots Battle of the Rock Lords opened March 21, 1986 from Clubhouse with Rock Lords added for new toys. The film arrived four months before Transformers The Movie and flopped at 1.3 million, closing the screen run while reruns continued on USA Cartoon Express.
Good to know
Watch the 1984 miniseries first for Leader-1 and Cy-Kill setup, then the 1985 series, then the film for Solitaire and Magmar. The film assumes series factions known but tells a standalone Rock quest. Clips later appeared in Fast Cheap and Out of Control, which stays outside story order as documentary use.
