About Ivor the Engine

Ivor the Engine is Oliver Postgate Smallfilms Welsh series about Ivor tank engine with Jones the Steam driver dreaming of choir singing. The 1959 Associated Rediffusion run aired in black white around the Merioneth line, then HTV remade it in color with 40 episodes from 1975 to 1977 with narration and songs.

Each era restarts the line rather than continuing prior endings with new animation. Watch the 1959 original for the origin puffs, then the 1975 color run for the full choir arc as the classic take for viewers.

Good to know

There is no separate chronological order worth listing. The 1959 Associated Rediffusion run and the 1975 to 1977 HTV color run each start with Ivor on the branch anew always, so release order and story order are the same list. Books and records sit beside and can be sampled after the two runs for extras.
