About Recess
Recess runs its schoolyard series from 1997 to 2001 with TJ's gang through fourth grade. School's Out in 2001 blows it up theatrically against the anti-summer plot and works as the mid-run peak. Christmas: Miracle on Third Street collects holiday segments, All Growed Down in 2003 flashes back to kindergarten, and Taking the Fifth Grade in 2003 graduates the gang forward.
Release order with the films where they aired keeps every payoff. School's Out assumes the full cast and plays best mid-run, All Growed Down reframes origins after the fact, and Fifth Grade closes as the graduation. The series is episodic otherwise, so only the films need fixing in place.
Good to know
Watch the series through with School's Out inside its air slot, then the three video closers. All Growed Down retcons Gus's arrival slightly, which only matters if placed first, so keep it late. Fifth Grade must close since it graduates everyone out of fourth grade's status quo. No revival has aired, leaving graduation as the intended ending.
