About X-Men

The Animated Series premiered October 31, 1992 and ended September 20, 1997 with five seasons and 76 episodes, adapting the Phoenix sagas, Days of Future Past and the Apocalypse arc. It is the version most people picture when they think of the X-Men in animation, and it adapts the comics rather than anything else.

X-Men '97 picked up days after that finale on March 20, 2024, kept the same continuity and much of the original voice cast, and finished its first season on May 15, 2024. Season 2 ran nine episodes from July 1 to August 12, 2026.

Two earlier appearances exist for the curious: the X-Men segment of The Marvel Super Heroes in 1966, and the one-off pilot Pryde of the X-Men in 1989. Neither is required, and Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends also borrowed the team in 1981.

Good to know

Season 3 is finished with production and scheduled for 2027, announced at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2026. Season 4 is in the writing phase, targeted for 2028. The 1966 and 1989 material predates the 1992 series by decades and does not connect to it, so there is no reason to track it down before starting. Nothing in this order is skippable once you commit to '97, since it continues directly from the 1997 finale.
