About Alone in the Dark

Alone in the Dark from Infogrames started in 1992 on PC as the first 3D survival horror with Carnby or Hartwood in Derceto manor. Jack in the Dark arrived 1993 as short sequel, then Alone 2 in 1993 and Alone 3 in 1994 continued pulp cases. The New Nightmare launched 2001 on PS1 and Dreamcast as reboot.

Alone in the Dark 2005 and Inferno 2008 moved to Central Park, then Illumination 2015 went co op. The THQ Nordic reboot arrived March 20, 2024 with Jodie Comer and David Harbour revisiting Derceto. Play the 1992 original then 2024 reboot for essentials, with middle entries as extras.

Good to know

Release order tracks horror evolution from tank controls to over shoulder, so there is no clean timeline to untangle. The 1992 trilogy needs DOSBox patience with fixed cameras. The New Nightmare plays best on PS1 with light puzzles. The 2024 reboot runs about 10 hours with dual campaigns. A Boll film reboot is in development with no date and stays out of this game list.
