About Dark Forces
Dark Forces began with LucasArts in 1995 about mercenary Kyle Katarn stealing the Death Star plans before A New Hope. Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II (1997) gives Kyle the lightsaber against Jerec's Seven, Mysteries of the Sith (1998) follows Mara Jade's side hunt, Jedi Outcast (2002) returns Kyle against Desann, and Jedi Academy (2003) passes the saber to student Jaden.
Nightdive's 2024 remaster of Dark Forces modernized the first hunt as the version to play. Disney's canon reset leaves the saga in Legends, with no new Katarn game dated as of 2026.
Good to know
Play one through five in release order, since the Valley of the Jedi and the Katarn apprenticeship assume the run. The remaster replaces the 1995 original with modern controls intact. Jedi Academy works as its own student story after the Katarn arc, with the light-dark choice fitting the finale rather than the start.
