About Drakengard
Drakengard began with Cavia in 2003 about Caim sealing a pact with the dragon Angelus against the Empire. The sequel (2005) follows Nowe eighteen years later with the Knights of the Seal. Drakengard 3 (2013) rewinds as a prequel around the songstress Zero and her dragon Mikhail with the flower curse.
Yoko Taro's branch endings spawn the Nier timeline out of the first game's fifth ending, making Drakengard the sideways parent of that series. No fourth game has been dated as of 2026, with Taro moving between Nier and new projects instead.
Good to know
Play one through three in release order, since the pact system and the Empire lore assume the run. The games demand multiple endings for the full story, so expect replays rather than one credits roll. Nier fits after as the branch child, with Drakengard's worst ending as its starting point in the timeline.
