About Fantasy Zone

Fantasy Zone starts with the 1986 arcade game as Opa-Opa hops the shops and bases across bright stages. Fantasy Zone II followed in 1987 with the Tears of Opa-Opa subtitle and darker worlds.

Fantasy Zone Gear arrived in 1991 on Game Gear and Super Fantasy Zone in 1992 on Mega Drive. Play in release order. The shop between stages stays constant, so each entry adds weapons and bosses onto known systems. Opa-Opa's shop sits between every stage. The twin stick bases reward saving early. A 2008 remake of Zone II sits as an extra.

Good to know

Play in release order. Each game stands alone with no story to untangle. The sentient shopkeeper Opa-Opa brothers framing repeats every entry. No new entry had been announced as of October 2026, with Super Fantasy Zone from 1992 the last original. The 2008 remake is an extra. Start with the 1986 arcade original.
