Higurashi When They Cry opens with Keiichi moving to Hinamizawa, where yearly festival deaths haunt the village. 07th Expansion's 2002 sound novel splits into four question arcs that loop the same June with different horrors.
The Kai answer arcs from 2003 resolve the loops through Rika's centuries, Rei added fanservice chapters in 2006 and Hou bundled everything for Steam from 2014. Play question arcs first, then Kai, then Rei and Hou extras. The answers only devastate with the questions fresh.

Release order is the designed loop: questions, answers, extras. The console arcs add side stories but the PC sequence carries the plot. Gou and Sotsu anime retell the mystery separately and stay outside this order. MangaGamer's Hou chapters are the definitive English versions. The series is complete with ports ongoing.
