About Mario Kart
Mario Kart started August 1992 on SNES with Mode 7. 64 in December 1996 adds 3D and 4 player, Super Circuit in 2001 goes handheld, Double Dash in 2003 adds co-op karts, DS in 2005 adds online and Wii in 2008 adds bikes.
7 in 2011 adds gliders, 8 in 2014 adds anti gravity with Deluxe in 2017 plus Booster Pass to 2023, Tour in 2019 goes mobile and shuts down September 2026, and World in June 2025 launches Switch 2 with open routes. Arcade GP and Home Circuit sit outside. No new game beyond World DLC rumors has been announced.
Good to know
There is no story order for Mario Kart. Cups and drivers reset each game, so release order is the only list. Deluxe with Booster Pass is the best 8 version. Tour ends September 2026. World from 2025 is the active game with live updates as of September 2026. Start with Super on SNES or World on Switch 2.
