About ModNation Racers
ModNation Racers launched in May 2010 on PS3 and PSP with a story career, 30 staff tracks and a track studio that lets players paint roads and place obstacles. United Front Games built it around the same create and share idea as LittleBigPlanet, with vinyl style mods and karts.
Road Trip followed in February 2012 as a Vita launch title with touch editing and shared community content. The servers closed in 2018, which ended downloads and online races. Play the original first for the full career, then Road Trip for the portable creation tools.
Good to know
Release order is the right play order. The two games share tracks and creation tools but no plot that carries over, so Road Trip works alone on Vita. Online servers for both games closed in 2018, so community downloads and matchmaking are gone. The career modes, split screen and track studio all still work offline.
