About Metroid
Metroid follows bounty hunter Samus Aran across two lines. The 2D line runs Metroid (1986), Metroid II (1991), Super Metroid (1994), Fusion (2002), Dread (2021) and the remake Samus Returns (2017). The Prime line runs Prime (2002), Echoes (2004), Corruption (2007), Hunters, Federation Force and Pinball as side entries, with Prime Remastered in 2023.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond released December 4, 2025 on Switch and Switch 2 from Retro Studios, eighteen years after Prime 3. It opens a new saga around Sylux on planet Viewros and sold over a million copies, with producer Kensuke Tanabe retiring in June 2026.
Good to know
Play in release order for the cleanest run, since the story builds slowly across games with little required knowledge. Super Metroid or Zero Mission make the best starting points for the 2D line, while Prime Remastered starts the 3D line well. Federation Force and Pinball are optional side games that the main story never assumes you played.
