About Monolith Soft

Monolith Soft was founded in Tokyo in 1999 by Tetsuya Takahashi and Hirohide Sugiura after Xenogears, first under Namco and since 2007 under Nintendo. Xenosaga Episode I arrived February 28, 2002 on PS2, Episode II followed in 2004 and Episode III in 2006, a space opera trilogy about Shion, KOS-MOS and the Gnosis.

Xenoblade Chronicles from June 10, 2010 rebooted the studio on Wii with Shulk and the Monado on Bionis. Xenoblade Chronicles X from 2015 moved to Wii U mechs on Mira, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 from 2017 plus Torna from 2018 covered Alrest, Definitive Edition from 2020 remade the original, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 from 2022 merged futures, and Future Redeemed from 2023 bridged the trilogy.

Good to know

Release order is the play order. Xenosaga tells one trilogy and Xenoblade splits across worlds, so story order only confuses things. Play Xenosaga I to III in sequence, then Xenoblade in release order with Torna after 2 and Future Redeemed after 3. This is the studio guide, not to be mixed with Monolith Productions. The Xenoblade franchise guide covers that subseries alone, while Xenosaga has its own post too.
