About Okami
Okami began with Clover Studio in 2006 about sun goddess Amaterasu in wolf form restoring color to Nippon with the celestial brush. Okamiden (2010) on DS follows her son Chibiterasu with partner Kuni clearing a new curse. Both games share the brush-stroke combat and the partner-chatter structure across feudal Japan.
A sequel from Hideki Kamiya was announced at the Game Awards in December 2024 with Capcom producing and no date set. The announcement trailer showed Amaterasu returning, positioning it as a continuation rather than a remake of either game.
Good to know
Play Okami HD first over the original disc, then Okamiden, since the brush list and the Nippon map assume the journey. Okamiden plays smaller on handheld with touch controls, so expect a cozier scale after the epic mainland journey. The sequel slots last once dated, continuing Amaterasu rather than rebooting her.
