About Steel Battalion
Steel Battalion from 2002 sets VT piloting with the giant 40 button controller across Pacific Rim missions on Xbox with cockpit pedals and eject button. Line of Contact from 2004 adds online sorties with new VTs and campaign co op across islands and forts.
Both share Capcom mech sims with eject realism and permadeath tension from Nudel design. The sequel assumes first game controls and startup sequence. Play in release order since Line of Contact assumes the first controls. The pair closed in 2004 with the controller out of print.
Good to know
There is no separate chronological order for Steel Battalion worth listing, since release order matches the campaign from enlist to online. The eject death rule stays fixed across sorties and servers, so the tension lands in order. Play the original first for controller basics, then take Line of Contact.
