About tri-Crescendo

tri-Crescendo was founded in Tokyo in 1999 by Hiroya Hatsushiba, first handling sound for tri-Ace games such as Valkyrie Profile. Its first full game was Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean (2003) for GameCube, co-developed with Monolith Soft and published by Namco, built around card-based Magnus combat.

Baten Kaitos Origins (2006) followed on GameCube as a prequel, again co-developed with Monolith Soft. Eternal Sonata (2007) was the studio own RPG for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, published by Bandai Namco and set in a fantasy inspired by composer Chopin. Later work centered on support and handheld projects.

Good to know

Release order is the play order, and the three games are standalone stories with no shared continuity. The two Baten Kaitos games share the Magnus card system, while Eternal Sonata uses its own light-and-dark battle mechanics. Note the overlap: a Baten Kaitos franchise post already covers that duology and its 2023 remaster in detail, while this guide covers the studio full lead-developer run.
