About Tropico
Tropico casts players as El Presidente balancing tourists, rebels and superpowers. The 2001 original sets dock rum loops, Pirate Cove in 2003 shifts to piracy, Tropico 3 in 2009 reboots with radio speeches, Tropico 4 in 2011 adds ministers, Tropico 5 in 2014 spans colonial to modern eras, and Tropico 6 in 2019 adds archipelagos and raids.
Entries stand alone with no story order to follow. New players often start with Tropico 4 for charm, Tropico 5 for eras, or Tropico 6 with DLC for current play. Expansions belong with their base game rather than apart, since edicts and raids stack there.
Good to know
Release order shows edicts grow from elections to eras to heists, but start with the newest complete edition you own. Tropico 6 has the fullest tourism and DLC loop, Tropico 4 runs funniest with Juanito radio, and Tropico 3 teaches basics fastest. Campaigns never share saves, so skip eras freely after one full run. Treat 6 as latest rather than last.
