About Xenonauts
Xenonauts is Goldhawk's Cold War XCOM tribute where you command the planetary defense force. Xenonauts from June 2014 sets the Iceland Incident in 1979 with turn tactics, bases and research. Xenonauts 2 entered early access July 2023 and hit 1.0 April 2, 2026, moving to 2009 with the Berlin Wall intact and Cleaners militia added.
The sequel is standalone in an altered timeline, so tech from part one does not carry. Hooded Horse published the follow up with 3D Unity graphics, reworked air combat and Steam Workshop mods. Both games reward careful squad saves and research rushes.
Good to know
There is no separate chronological order for Xenonauts worth listing, since part two deliberately restarts the invasion rather than continuing it. Release order is the best boot camp. Play the 2014 game first for fundamentals and Cold War dread, then part two for modern systems. Newcomers short on time can start with part two alone.
