About Alpha Centauri
Sid Meier Alpha Centauri launched February 1999 from Firaxis about seven human factions landing on Chiron. The design pushes terraforming, social engineering and native mindworms past classic Civ rules.
Alien Crossfire arrived October 1999 with seven more factions, five human and two alien Progenitors, plus new techs, projects and a Progenitor victory. Bundles like the Planetary Pack followed, but no sequel shipped because EA holds the rights. Beyond Earth from 2014 is only a spiritual follow up.
Good to know
Play Alpha Centauri, then Alien Crossfire in that order. Crossfire needs the base systems and reads poorly alone for newcomers. The expansion web fiction Centauri Arrival adds color but no required plot at all. Skip Beyond Earth for this order, since it starts a separate rules line with no story link.
