About Alan Parker
Alan Parker started in advertising before his feature debut Bugsy Malone in 1976, a gangster musical played entirely by children. Midnight Express followed in 1978, a Turkish prison drama written by Oliver Stone, then Fame in 1980 about students at a New York performing arts school. Shoot the Moon arrived in 1982, a divorce drama, the same year as Pink Floyd The Wall.
Birdy came in 1984 with Matthew Modine and Nicolas Cage as Vietnam veterans, then Angel Heart in 1987, a noir horror with Mickey Rourke. Mississippi Burning followed in 1988 on the 1964 civil rights murders. The Commitments arrived in 1991 on a Dublin soul band, then Evita in 1996 with Madonna. Parker died in 2020, so this run is closed.
Good to know
These films share no continuity, so release order is the only order that matters. Birdy is dated 1984 in the UK, which some lists shift to 1985 for the US release. Shoot the Moon and Pink Floyd The Wall both date to 1982, and are listed in UK release sequence. This guide picks ten central titles from fourteen features, skipping later work like Angelas Ashes to keep the path short.
