About Carlos Saura

Carlos Saura directed more than forty features, starting with Los Golfos in 1960 and breaking out with The Hunt in 1966 and Peppermint Frappe in 1967. Ana and the Wolves arrived in 1973, Cousin Angelica in 1974 and Cria Cuervos in 1976, his Cannes prizewinning run on memory and family under Franco.

Elisa vida mia followed in 1977, Blood Wedding in 1981 and Carmen in 1983, his flamenco diptych with Antonio Gades and Laura del Sol. Ay Carmela came in 1990. Saura died in 2023. Watch these nine in release order, since the political pressure lifts film by film and the musicals land harder after the dramas.

Good to know

These are standalone stories with no shared continuity, so there is no chronological order to untangle. This list is a starter path of nine from more than forty features, leaving out documentaries like Flamenco and Sevillanas. Cria Cuervos was filmed in 1975 and released in 1976, so sources list either year. Start with Cria Cuervos, then The Hunt, then Carmen and Blood Wedding as a music pair.
