About Albert Serra
Albert Serra films historical figures as if the camera just stayed in the room. Honour of the Knights reworks Don Quixote with non actors, Birdsong follows the Magi on foot, and Story of My Death pairs Casanova with Dracula. The Death of Louis XIV watches the king die almost in real time.
Liberte moves to a forest night of aristocrats, Pacifiction follows a French official in Tahiti across clubs and harbors, and Afternoons of Solitude watches bullfighter Andres Roca Rey up close. Release order is the viewing order, since the style gets more controlled each time.
Good to know
The films do not share characters, so there is no timeline to untangle. Some early shorts and the 2003 Crespi can wait until after the main run. Pacifiction runs 165 minutes and Afternoons of Solitude is a documentary, so plan them as separate nights rather than a double feature. His English debut Out of This World is in post production with no date, so it stays out of the list for now.
