About Anurag Kashyap

Anurag Kashyap spent two decades dragging Hindi cinema toward the gutter and the sublime. Paanch from 2003 never cleared censors, Black Friday from 2007 rebuilt the Bombay blasts trial, and Dev D from 2009 electrocuted the Devdas myth. Gangs of Wasseypur Parts 1 and 2 from 2012 turned coal mafia revenge into a five hour epic.

Ugly from 2014, Raman Raghav 2.0 from 2016 and Mukkabaaz from 2018 kept the violence intimate. Sacred Games season 1 from 2018, co-directed with Motwane, set the streaming template. Manmarziyaan, Choked and Dobaaraa varied the register before Nishaanchi, Kennedy and Bandar closed 2025 and 2026. Pick any entry point, though Wasseypur shows the peak.

Good to know

Release order is the suggested path, though most films stand alone. The two Wasseypur parts must stay paired in sequence. Paanch never released theatrically and plays as a legend rather than a starting point. Sacred Games has its own guide for the series. Bombay Talkies, Lust Stories and Ghost Stories hold only segments and stay out. Kennedy premiered in 2023 but released in India in 2026, the year used here.
