About Arthur
Arthur from July 1981 follows rich drunk Arthur Bach choosing love over money, with Dudley Moore, Liza Minnelli and John Gielgud leading the cast. It won Gielgud a supporting Oscar plus the theme song on a 7 million budget with huge returns.
Arthur 2: On the Rocks from July 1988 reunites the trio for a marriage and money loss story that flopped hard with critics. Arthur from April 2011 remakes the setup with Russell Brand, Helen Mirren and Greta Gerwig to weak returns and reviews. No further film is announced.
Good to know
Watch the 1981 film, then the 1988 sequel for the Moore arc in order fully. The 2011 remake retells rather than continues, so it works as an alternate after the originals. The sequel assumes the first marriage directly from the start. All three stand as a closed set with no hook left open at all ever.
