About Blair Witch
The Blair Witch Project from 1999 follows three students who vanish in the Maryland woods, told through recovered tapes. Book of Shadows from 2000 takes a meta turn about fans obsessed with the first film. Blair Witch from 2016 returns to found footage as Heather's brother James searches the same woods years later.
Watch in release order. The 2016 film acts as a direct sequel to 1999 and skips the 2000 story, but seeing all three in order makes that choice clear. A new Lionsgate and Blumhouse film dated September 24, 2027 will extend the list once it arrives.
Good to know
Book of Shadows divides fans because it drops found footage and plays as a studio horror about fandom itself. It still fits between the other two in story years. The 2016 film assumes you remember the 1999 ending, so do not start there. The 2019 Bloober game and the 2000 companion docs are optional extras that add lore without changing the film order.
