About The Dark Crystal

The Dark Crystal saga covers Jim Henson's puppet fantasy world of Thra. The 1982 film follows Jen on a quest to heal the Crystal, while the 2019 Netflix series Age of Resistance rewinds to the Gelfling clans uniting against the Skeksis years earlier.

Release order is the recommended path: the film's spare, mythic storytelling primes you for the series, which then expands everything you thought you knew. Chronological order works too, but the series hits harder when you already know where Thra ends up.

Good to know

Age of Resistance was cancelled after one season despite strong reviews, so its story stops mid saga and the film doubles as the ending. The series reveals fates the film only hints at, which is exactly why watching the 93 minute film first is the safer choice. No new Thra screen project has been announced.
