About Dirty Dancing
Dirty Dancing follows Baby and Johnny at a Catskills resort in 1963 from August 1987 with Swayze and Grey. A short 1988 CBS series ran 11 episodes with a new cast. Havana Nights from February 2004 moves a similar story to 1958 Cuba as a standalone prequel with Swayze cameoing as a teacher.
The 2017 ABC musical remake runs 130 minutes with Abigail Breslin. An untitled sequel with Jennifer Grey returning has been discussed by Lionsgate with no date. Each screen version restarts rather than continues, so release order is a tour of the formula.
Good to know
Watch the 1987 original first, since everything else riffs on its lifts and lines directly. The series, Havana Nights and the 2017 remake work as alternates in any order after it for completists. Swayze bridges the original and Havana Nights with his cameo. The planned sequel stays yearless, so the 2017 remake is the current endpoint.
