About Doctor Dolittle
Doctor Dolittle opened in 1967 as Rex Harrison's musical voyage with talking animals, an expensive production that won effects and song Oscars despite its troubled shoot. Eddie Murphy rebooted the vet in 1998 as a family comedy hit, with a sequel in 2001.
Three later entries continued without Murphy: Tail to the Chief in 2008 and Million Dollar Mutts in 2009 with Kyla Pratt's Maya, then Robert Downey Jr.'s Dolittle in 2020. Each version restarts the vet separately. Watch the 1967 and 1998 films as the two peaks, then sample the rest.
Good to know
Release order tours three separate Dolittles: Harrison's musical, Murphy's comedy run and Downey's fantasy. The Murphy sequels without him drop sharply in budget and cast, so completism is optional past part two. The 2020 film flopped hard enough to pause the franchise. Nothing further has been announced.
