About Emma Seligman
Emma Seligman directs anxiety comedies that never leave the room. Shiva Baby from 2020 traps Danielle at a shiva with her sugar daddy, her ex and her parents across 78 claustrophobic minutes. Bottoms from 2023 puts two unpopular girls in charge of a high school fight club to impress cheerleaders.
Both films run tight with the same escalation grammar, adapted from her thesis short and festival labs. No third feature is announced. Watch Shiva Baby first since its single location pressure cooker teaches her timing at the smallest scale before the school wide chaos.
Good to know
Release order is the only order since the two films share no world. Shiva Baby works first because its shiva house shows her pressure timing fastest. The 2018 thesis short is the same story in miniature and stays optional. No third Seligman feature carries a title or date, so Bottoms stays last. The Void short from 2018 stays with the thesis as student work.
