About Footloose
Footloose from 1984 follows Ren McCormack challenging Reverend Moore's dancing ban after moving to Bomont, with Kevin Bacon and Lori Singer leading to the warehouse dance finale. It earned strong box office on a small budget and made the title song iconic. Footloose from October 2011 remakes it with Kenny Wormald and Julianne Hough keeping the ban, the tractor chicken run and the finale.
Craig Brewer directed the remake with the same structure and updated music. No sequel to either has been made. The two form a textbook original plus remake pair with no shared cast beyond the story shape.
Good to know
Original first is the rule here, since the remake assumes you know the ban beats. The 2011 version updates phones and cars but keeps dialogue close, so watching both back to back feels repetitive by design. Pick one for a single night, both for comparison. With no third film dated, the pair is closed at two.
