About Friday the 13th
Twelve Friday the 13th films were released between 1980 and 2009, spanning Paramount's original run, the New Line era, and the 2009 remake. Continuity reboots and retcons pile up fast: Jason's story restarts more than once. Release order is the recommended path because it matches how the mythology actually built up.
The prequel series Crystal Lake premieres October 15, 2026 on Peacock with all eight episodes. It follows Pamela Voorhees before the 1980 film. Watch it last, after the films, since it assumes you know the legend.
Good to know
Jason X (2001) jumps centuries into the future; Freddy vs. Jason (2003) crosses over with A Nightmare on Elm Street and plays better with basic Freddy knowledge. Long-running rights disputes stalled new films after 2009; series rights sit with the television side (A24 and Peacock) while film rights remain tangled. Crystal Lake is dated but unreleased as of this check.
