About George Lucas

THX 1138 opened in 1971 with underground dystopia and white rooms, American Graffiti in 1973 with Modesto cruising and Wolfman Jack radio, and Star Wars in 1977 with farm boy space opera and Death Star run. Lucas skipped Empire and Jedi as director, producing with Kershner and Marquand.

Phantom Menace arrived in 1999 with podraces, Attack of the Clones in 2002 with arena beasts, and Revenge of the Sith in 2005 closing Anakin fall with lava duel. Lucas consults since, including Indy Dial of Destiny in 2023. Watch the six in release order, since the prequels assume original trilogy goodwill.

Good to know

Release order beats episode order for a first watch, since the prequels spoil Vader reveals. The six are the complete directing run, with Empire and Jedi directed by Kershner and Marquand outside this list. Sith in 2005 is the final directing job, with producing and consulting after. No next directing job is dated.
