Ghost Rider Watch Order

Both Ghost Rider films in order: Cage's 2007 origin as Johnny Blaze and the 2012 Spirit of Vengeance sequel. A closed two-film Blaze arc with the third film cancelled, so release order is the only order.

About Ghost Rider

Ghost Rider from 2007 stars Nicolas Cage as stunt rider Johnny Blaze, who sells his soul to Mephistopheles to save his father and becomes the flaming-skulled Spirit of Vengeance. Made for 110 million, it earned 228 million worldwide despite rough reviews.

Spirit of Vengeance followed in 2012 from Crank directors Neveldine and Taylor, stranding Blaze in Eastern Europe on a church mission to protect a boy. Cage has since said he is done with the role and the planned third film was cancelled. Two films, one linear Blaze arc, so release order is the only order.

Good to know

Release order is story order. The sequel picks up years after the original with Blaze in hiding, and nothing else in the Marvel screen canon connects to these two films. New viewers should expect a tone shift: the original plays as gothic romance, the sequel as frenetic action. Neither film leads anywhere now, so the pair reads as a closed duology.
