About The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
Stieg Larsson's Millennium books spawned two screen runs. Sweden filmed all three in 2009 with Noomi Rapace as Lisbeth: Tattoo, Played with Fire and Kicked the Hornet's Nest, keeping Blomkvist and Erika intact. They run about seven hours total with the same cast.
The US remade Tattoo in 2011 with Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig, then skipped to Spider's Web in 2018 with Claire Foy as a reboot. The two US films share no cast beyond the characters. No sixth film was dated by September 2026, so both runs stand closed.
Good to know
Choose Swedish or US and do not mix, since each retells the Vanger case differently. Swedish order is Tattoo then Fire then Hornets for the full Wennerstrom payoff. US Tattoo works alone, with Spider's Web as a loose follow up. Books continue past films with Lagercrantz, but no adaptations were filming as of 2026.
