About Hot Shots
Hot Shots! sends up Top Gun with Charlie Sheen as pilot Topper Harley, a joke a minute and produced by the Airplane! team. Part Deux switches targets to Rambo, stranding Topper on a rescue mission that parodies the missing in action rescue cycle.
Watch in release order. Part Deux assumes the Topper Harley setup and replays several structures from the first film, so the callbacks land only in sequence. The two share a hero and a tone but little plot, making them companion spoofs in the Airplane tradition.
Good to know
Jim Abrahams directed both entries, which is why the pair holds together better than most spoof sequels. Lloyd Bridges steals both films as Admiral Benson, with some of the series best gags built around him. No third film was ever developed, and Sheen's Topper remains a two film run, so the list below is the complete set.
