About Jennifer Kent
Jennifer Kent debuted with The Babadook in 2014 about a widow and the pop up book monster. The film grew from her short Monster and won wide praise for grief horror. The Nightingale followed in 2018 set in 1825 Tasmania as Clare chases a soldier with an Aboriginal tracker.
The second film split Venice crowds with its violence but won the special jury prize. Both run slow and brutal on purpose. The works share mothers under siege and long takes but no plot. Release order shows her horror widening into history intact.
Good to know
Watch Babadook before Nightingale since the craft builds that way well. Monster the short fits first for completists in ten minutes flat. Nightingale needs a steady head as its revenge is grim and long. No next feature has a date yet, so the 2018 Tasmania film stays last until one is announced. Keep Monster queued first since it previews the book design well.
