About Mannequin
Mannequin (1987) is peak 1980s rom-com fantasy: Andrew McCarthy's window dresser falls for a mannequin who comes alive as Kim Cattrall's Emmy, with Meshach Taylor and James Spader orbiting. Mannequin Two: On the Move (1991) replays the premise in Philadelphia with a new cast and a thousand-year-old peasant curse.
The films share the living-mannequin idea, not continuity: the sequel recasts everything and works as a standalone. Release order shows the formula applied twice. The Starship song Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now outlived both films and plays over the first's credits. No third film has ever been discussed seriously.
Good to know
The sequel's new cast means no prior viewing is strictly needed, though the original's charm sets the bar. Hollywood Montague's flamboyance is the 1987 film's standout and its most dated element in equal measure. Both films are firmly of their era in gender politics: enjoy the fantasy, forgive the decade. The duology is complete, with the 1987 original as the one to see.
