About Mike Mills
Mike Mills debuted with Thumbsucker in 2005 about hypnosis and braces. Beginners followed in 2010 with Plummer coming out late to Oscar gold. 20th Century Women arrived in 2016 with Bening raising Lucas in Santa Barbara.
Cmon Cmon came in 2021 shooting Phoenix and a kid in black and white. The films share parents and kids talking past bedsides but no plots link at all. Each runs warm and designed on purpose. Release order shows his graphic novels eye softening into family portraits. His design roots show in the books and sweaters styled across the films.
Good to know
Watch oldest to newest since each family resets its house. Thumbsucker first sets the teen base for the run ahead. Beginners and Century pair as his parent bookends to give full focus. Cmon closes as the radio turn. No next feature has a date yet, so the 2021 kid film stays last until one lands. His Oscar nods confirm the warmth, so give Beginners full attention.
