About Olivier Assayas
Olivier Assayas, born January 25, 1955, debuted with Disorder in 1986, then broke through with Cold Water in 1994 and Irma Vep in 1996, his tribute to French silent cinema and Hong Kong film. Summer Hours followed in 2008 and the long form espionage portrait Carlos in 2010. Clouds of Sils Maria arrived in 2014 and Personal Shopper in 2016, both with Kristen Stewart.
Suspended Time played festivals in 2024 before The Wizard of the Kremlin premiered at Venice in August 2025 and opened in France in January 2026. Watch the eight in release order. The films do not connect, and release order lets you see his shift from intimate drama to globe hopping stories about art, fame and power.
Good to know
Each entry stands alone, so there is no chronological order to untangle. Carlos runs over five hours in its full form, and many viewers split it across two nights, which does not affect placement. Assayas remains active after Venice 2025, so check for newer work after The Wizard of the Kremlin. If you only want three, try Cold Water, Irma Vep and Clouds of Sils Maria.
