About Pacific Rim
Pacific Rim is Guillermo del Toro's kaiju versus mecha universe, where coastal cities fight interdimensional monsters with piloted Jaegers. The first film from 2013 sets up the Breach, the Jaeger program and the closing of the portal. Uprising from 2018 jumps ten years forward with a new cast of cadets and a second kaiju war.
The Black is a Netflix anime in two seasons from 2021 to 2022, following siblings Taylor and Hayley Travis in Australia after the events of Uprising. A live action prequel series was announced in 2024 and a graphic novel sequel arrived in 2026, but neither changes the viewing path for the released films and anime.
Good to know
There is no separate chronological order for Pacific Rim worth listing, since story order matches release order from start to finish. Watch the 2013 film, then Uprising, then both seasons of The Black. The Black assumes you know what a Jaeger and a kaiju are, so do not start there. The announced prequel will sit first once it airs, but for now the four released entries form one straight line.
