About Phantasm
Phantasm follows Mike Pearson, his brother Jody and their friend Reggie as they face the Tall Man, a grave robber who compresses the dead into dwarf drones and sends silver spheres after anyone who resists. Don Coscarelli directed the 1979 original on a small budget, then returned for the sequels in 1988, 1994 and 1998 before David Hartman closed the run with Ravager in 2016.
The sequels pick up where the last film stopped, with dream logic and dimension jumps that only make sense in release order. Angus Scrimm plays the Tall Man through all five, and Reggie Bannister stays the through line as the ice cream vendor turned fighter.
Good to know
There is no separate chronological order worth listing, since each sequel starts minutes after the prior ending and the time travel in part four folds back into the same line. Watch in release order and expect the tone to shift from horror to science fiction by part three. Ravager was made after Scrimm aged visibly, so the final film frames his scenes as memory and dream.
