About Sean Durkin
Sean Durkin directs family pressure until it cracks. Martha Marcy May Marlene from 2011 follows Elizabeth Olsen as Martha after she leaves a Catskills cult and cannot settle with her sister. The Nest from 2020 moves an American trader family to a damp Surrey mansion where money stress eats the marriage. The Iron Claw from 2023 tells the Von Erich wrestling tragedy as a brother story.
Durkin also directed the Channel 4 series Southcliffe in 2013 and episodes of Dead Ringers in 2023. His next feature Deep Cuts has been announced but had no date as of October 2026. The three features share no characters, only a method of holding on faces while rooms go quiet.
Good to know
Watch in release order. Martha Marcy May Marlene won the Sundance directing award and still plays as his sharpest cult study. The Nest premiered at Sundance 2020 and runs 107 minutes, shorter than memory suggests. The Iron Claw compresses years of Von Erich history, so expect composite events. Deep Cuts is the one to watch for, add it at the end once it has a firm year. Start with Martha if you only pick one.
