About Shanghai Noon
Shanghai Noon from May 2000 follows Chon Wang to Nevada in 1881 with Roy O'Bannon, directed by Tom Dey. Shanghai Knights from February 2003 moves the pair to London in 1887 with Charlie Chaplin and Doyle gags, directed by David Dobkin. The two earned about 188 million combined and play as one buddy run.
Shanghai Dawn was announced by MGM in May 2015 with Jared Hess signed in 2016 and Chan plus Wilson expected back, but it never filmed. Writer Alfred Gough said in 2024 that Chan passed after a 2017 script, then talked again in 2025. With no shoot or date as of September 2026, the guide lists two released films plus the undated slot.
Good to know
Watch Noon then Knights, since the second picks up the partnership and teases Hollywood at the close. Release order matches story order here, with Noon in 1881 and Knights in 1887. Treat Dawn as a maybe until cameras roll, because conflicting story reports place it in Mexico or China depending on the interview. Both films run as light action comedy, so expect tone shift from western to Victorian adventure.
