About Shrek
Shrek (2001), Shrek 2 (2004), Shrek the Third (2007) and Shrek Forever After (2010) run in sequence, and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022) follows on from Forever After. The spin-offs break that line: Puss in Boots (2011) happens before Shrek 2, and Donkey, set for June 30, 2028, is an origin story.
Shrek 5 opens June 30, 2027 with Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz returning, joined by Zendaya, Marcello Hernandez and Skyler Gisondo as Shrek and Fiona's grown children. Watch in release order first; the rearranged list only helps once you know the originals.
Good to know
Shrek 5 has moved twice, from July 2026 to December 23, 2026 and then to June 30, 2027, with the first trailer on June 16, 2026. Antonio Banderas says he does not appear in it. No third Puss in Boots film is announced, though co-director Januel Mercado said in August 2026 that things are stirring in development.
