About Sister Act
Sister Act follows lounge singer Deloris Van Cartier, who hides from the mob in a convent after witnessing a murder and turns its choir into a showstopper. The sequel moves her to a struggling San Francisco school where she pulls the same trick with a student choir.
Watch in release order. The second film reuses the first film's shape on purpose, so the callbacks to Mother Superior, Sister Mary Robert and the Vegas act only register if you have seen the original first. Both run about 100 minutes, so the pair makes an easy double feature.
Good to know
Sister Act 3 has been in development for years with Whoopi Goldberg attached to return and produce alongside Tyler Perry for Disney+. Scripts have cycled through writers without a shoot date, so it stays out of the list. Maggie Smith, who played Mother Superior, died in 2024, which the eventual film will have to reckon with.
